3rd party server connections

Once a licensee Oyster rapidly becomes the spine of their business.  A business' most sensitive information is generated and stored either by us or our licensee. Whilst it is safest to have everything managed under the one umbrella, some licensee's prefer to retain this data on their own server and have it communicate with Oyster for the "working parts" of their licensed Pearl. It is understandable that companies are protective over their most sensitive data and the connection to our Pearls is safe. It means that the licensee takes the responsibility on its own back-ups and for its own security and protocols with regards to their data and server but it is a choice that is their own to make.

Connection

All data will reside on the licensee server. API connection will be constructed to the licensee's server to specific output databases. The databases will talk to Pearl via API connection to generate results and then store them on the licensee's server. The connection is a two way API connection constructed by Oyster that will require that Oyster maintain access to the 3rd party Server to maintain connections.  The fee for setting up these connections depends on the package chosen and functionality connected. Updates and upgrades are regularly made in Oyster's base coding to benefit its licensees and to maintain connection integrity this is an understandable requisite. Therefore a monthly maintenance fee is charged.

Legal responsibility for security

Whilst the reason for choosing this is because the licensee wants to retain control over its own data it comes with risks that the licensee has to take ownerships of.  Oyster cannot be legally responsible for the security or backing up of a 3rd party server or indeed potential data loss.  When data resides with Oyster, data is backed up automatically. If that data is not held on an Oyster server then that is no longer Oyster responsibility and does not remain within Oyster's own compliance protocols for GDPR and other governmental regulations.  The licensee therefore in taking this decision assumes all responsibility for compliance.
